Mexico Vivo is a magnificent company of dancers, singers and musicians who have created a spectacular Mexican production. Their program will take you to the Aztec rituals of Pre-Columbian times as well as delight you with the unique music of La Bamba from the state of Veracruz, Mexico. The bow-tying foot ceremony that symbolizes the promise of eternal love will enchant you; while the dramatic Deer Dance of Sonora, Mexico will captivate you. The fast extraordinary dances of Jalisco will present the different songs of every region of Mexico. Mexico Vivo, which means “joyful movement” in the Nahuatl language of the Aztecs, is a dance company that was founded in 1995 by Icela Gutierrez. Gutierrez’s dream was to preserve and share the heritage and folklore of the Mexican tradition with the children of Mexico and others. The artistic history of Icela Gutierrez consists of more than twenty years of preparation and dancing experience in Mexico as well as in the United States. Her solid career as well as her artistic experiences inspire the members of Mexico Vivo to find, through the discipline of dance, the capability of becoming true dancing professionals. Ms. Gutierrez began her career at a very young age. She studied under the direction of some of the most renowned and distinguished instructors of Mexico City: The National Institute of Fine Arts and with Amalia Hernandez’s famous Folkloric Ballet of Mexico. After an accomplished soloist dance career, Gutierrez was also coordinator of dancers in the National Folkloric Ballet of Mexico under the direction of Silvia Lozano. Icela Gutierrez’s mission is to continue to preserve and expose the interest and appreciation of the Mexican culture through dance. Gutierrez has taken her art to many diverse countries and continents. The performances of Mexico Vivo will embark audiences on an unforgettable voyage of experience in the Mexican culture, a feeling of excitement and energy through a unique and thrilling perspective of our neighbor country: Mexico. |
